File operations#

When accessing a remote device, you can perform file operations such as transferring files, renaming files and folders, and running processes. File operations are performed using a dual-panel view in the Explorer pane.

Tip

When an explorer panel displays the root folder of the device disk, it also shows the direct link to the system folders such as Desktop and My Documents folders.

To transfer a file

  1. Open FactoryTalk Remote Access and connect to the remote device, then click Explorer.

  2. To transfer a file to the remote device, in the Explorer window under Local File System type the path or use the drop down menu to navigate to the location where the file is on the local computer.

  3. Select the file on the local computer to transfer to the remote device then click Send.

  4. To transfer a file from the remote device, in the Explorer window under Remote File System type the path or use the drop down menu to navigate to the location where the file is on the remote computer.

  5. Select the file on the remote device to transfer to the local computer then click Receive.

Note

If the file transfer is interrupted for any reason, it can be resumed from the point it stopped or can be restarted from the beginning by clicking Resume or Resume all.

To run a remote process

  1. In the Remote File panel of the Explorer, select an executable program.

  2. Select the Execute remotely icon in the toolbar above the Remote File System list.

To rename a file or folder

You can rename files or folders on the local or remote computer.

  1. Select the item in the Explorer.

  2. Click the Edit icon in the toolbar above either the Local File System or Remote File System list.

  3. Type the new name in the space provided.

  4. Select OK to confirm the new name.

To create a new folder

You can create new folders on the local or remote computer.

  1. Click the Add folder icon in the toolbar above either the Local File System or Remote File System list.

  2. Type a folder name in the space provided.

  3. Select OK to apply the name and create the new folder.

To delete a file or folder

You can delete files or folders from the local or remote computer.

  1. Select the item in the Explorer from either the Local File System or Remote File System list.

  2. Click the Delete icon in the toolbar above the list. A confirmation message is displayed.

  3. Select Yes to confirm the deletion.
