VPN Settings#

Use the VPN settings tool to set the connection port and proxy server. These settings are used for making a VPN connection between the FactoryTalk Remote Access service and the devices in the domain.

To configure network port and proxy settings for VPN connections:

  1. In the FactoryTalk Remote Access web app, click Tools > Connection settings.

    Note

If you have not already downloaded the FactoryTalk Remote Access web app, you will be prompted to download it.

  2. You will be asked to permit the service to open the Settings Applet. Select the Always allow checkbox to not prompt again during this session. If you use a different computer or a different browser, you will see this prompt again. This permission applies to all of the FactoryTalk Remote Access tools.

  3. Select Open Settings Applet.

  4. Under Connection in Port select the network port to use for VPN connections.

    • Auto - The FactoryTalk Remote access service automatically selects the appropriate port based on the connection request.

    • 80 - The FactoryTalk Remote access service will only attempt to connect to the VPN client using the HTTP protocol over port 80. If the client rejects connections over port 80, the session is not established.

    • 443 - The FactoryTalk Remote access service will only attempt to connect to the VPN client using the HTTPS protocol over port 443. If the client rejects connections over port 443, the session is not established.

    • 5935 - The FactoryTalk Remote access service will only attempt to connect to the VPN client using the TCP and UDP protocols over port 5935. If the client rejects connections over port 5935, the session is not established.

  5. If a proxy service is used for internet connections under Proxy select the type of proxy server:

    • None: A proxy server is not used for the internet connection.

    • HTTP: HTTP Proxy Server. Forwards HTTP requests; supports authentication with username and password.

    • SOCKS5: SOCKS5 Proxy Server. Forwards TCP and UDP packets; supports authentication with username and password.

  6. After making your selections, click Apply to save the proxy settings to the domain.

Once the connection to FactoryTalk Remote Access service is made, if the device is disconnected it will enter a timeout mode while it automatically attempts to reconnect. In this situation a warning icon displays while attempting to reconnect.
